NHS Project Initiation
This programme has been developed to provide project teams within the NHS with a facilitated process to initiate their projects.  Successful projects have common attributes including:
Clear Roles & Responsibilities
Project Leadership to build & lead a motivated team
SMART Objectives and a clear scope definition
Outline & Full Business Cases with options appraisal
Project Initiation & a clear, agreed Project Initiation Document (PID)
A Risk Management Plan and Risk Register
Project Plans and Resourcing
Project Monitoring & Control, including a Staged Gate Review process with Project Board engagement throughout the project
Change control & issue management
Project Closeout, Post Project Review and Lessons Learned

This programme aims to provide a structured approach for new projects to ensure that their project is initiated properly to ensure the success of the project.

Target Audience
This workshop is designed for all the members of a project team, from Project Board members to Project Team members. The workshop provides tangible project-related outputs in addition to covering key elements of project management best practice

Overview
This workshop is delivered fully APMP-qualified and experienced project managers with a track record of delivering the NHS Project Management Development Programme and also working at National Level. The workshop has been tailored to meet the needs of NHS project teams who have been brought together to work on a project.

Objectives
To ensure that roles and responsibilities for the project are agreed and understood, from members of the Project Boards to members of the Project Team
To agree the objectives and scope of the project
To commence the preparation of the Project Initiation Document, including key deliverables such as:
The Project Risk Register
The Risk Management Plan
The High Level Plan
The Project Organisation
Change Control
The who, what, why, when & how of the project?
To provide an overview of best practice project management
To agree project controls
To agree a Staged Gate Review process where applicable
