Brian McKaig
He spent the next 27 years in a wide variety of managerial functions as he rose to a Senior Management position in the now Department of Work and Pensions.

Brian quickly acquired a taste for new challenges so his initial role of managing teams of diverse individuals gave way to involvement in Departmental projects.

Since the early 1980s he was heavily involved in many internal projects such as the introduction and implementation of new government legislation, conversion of traditional departmental functions to an IT environment, joint working initiatives across local and central government services and was central to the success of these projects at local and Scottish level.

His involvement in the management of these projects led Brian to qualifying as a Departmental training instructor and joining the Scottish Training Unit where he delivered events to managers and staff on products ranging from basic IT skills to leadership development. During this period he also developed training material for new entrant induction events.

More recently Brian managed the transfer of services from traditional High Street offices to the Department’s network of contact centres. As well as managing the service delivery changes he was also involved in the large recruitment exercises and working with the private sector in redeveloping existing buildings and where necessary new acquisitions. During this period he travelled throughout the UK working with staff at all levels in developing new services and in a consultative capacity to managers as new contact centres opened. He also managed the closure of traditional offices and the consequent redeployment of staff.
